ee spammings - Beautiful Language Of Spam Poetry
The world doesn't need more spam. But it needs more poetry. Given the excess of one and shortage of the other, I thought it would be useful to develop a process that turned spam into poetry.
The ee spamming project recycles spam into poetry. The availability and permanence of spam suggests that this is a sustainable effort.

Below are two examples of ee spammings. The first was extracted from a slightly ghoulish Russian spam and the second from a religiously constrained romantic advance.

ee cummings — a modern interpretation
ee spammings are spam edited into a format reminiscent of the poetry of ee cummings. Unwanted solicitations for questionable endeavours and products suddenly turn into heady words of the new literature. Art suddenly freed from the husk of spam.

rules for creation of ee spammings
All the ee spammings shown here are based on actual spam I have received. ee spammings are created by manual editing (not by an automated system — a trickier challenge) of the spam using the following rules
- all text is transformed to lowercase
- line breaks and spaces between words can be added
- punctuation, including brackets, can be added or removed
i think we can → (i think) we can - words can be removed from the spam
i amayoung goodlooking girl... → i am young (good) ... - existing words can be repeated
click together → click,click,click (together) - form of word (e.g. singular/plural, tense, etc) can be altered (applied infrequently, extends rule 2)

Several rules can be applied at once, or iteratively, such as in example of rules #4 where (a) words were removed and (b) punctuation was added.
As you can tell by the form of these rules, the content of the spam is not significantly altered. These rules work to extract ee spammings from spam. Each spam has a multitude of ee spammings — consider extracting your own.

ee cummings
ee cummings is one of my most cherished poets. His words tickle the language center, and their ambiguity and mis-un-grammatical-ness send them straight into that part of the brain that gives me the feeling, more than meaning, for what the words stand for.
Reading him is reading (and) feeling(s). And being closer to feelings and further from thoughts is a good way to pass time.
This project is my ongoing love-affair with words, loose structure, tangents, and, of course, ee cummings. The ee spammings here do not do justice to his work — indeed nothing else can. The best they can do is echo and hint, and abandon the limit of their lowly origins.

The content of the original spam is lost in this ee spamming. In extracting this ee spamming, I didn't want to choose the obvious stranded victim theme.
Often, once the first line of the ee spamming is extracted, the rest follows. In this case, I knew that I wanted to include "hurry" and paired it with "to come", when I saw that both "left" and "right" appeared in the spam.

Unlike in the ee spamming to come (hurry) for me one left, this one had its last phrases written first. Having ended in sadness and angst, the mood of its start was fixed and it was just a matter of extracting the words.

Building on the method I used to analyze the 2008 debates, I look at the 2012 Debates between Obama and Romney, lexically speaking. Obama speaks to "folks", while Romney fearmongers with "kill" and "hurt".
